About the Breed
The Italian greyhound has been around since ancient Egyptain
times. Whatever its original purpose, it has been bred for
the past few centuries purely as a pet. It is classified
as a toy breed. The Italian Greyhound (IG for short) is
a perfect miniature of its larger forebear. You can not
mistake an Italian Greyhound.
Description
Streamlined and graceful, these dogs are capable of short
bursts of speed. The Italian Greyhounds move in a prancey,
proud, and graceful way that is unique and beautiful to
watch. Their glossy satin coat comes in various shades of
fawn, cream, white, red, blue, black-and-fawn, and white.
Italian Greyhounds can be timid by nature, but are very
loving and affectionate to those they know best. With their
sensitive nature they need to be handled with care. The
IG has a playful side and always moves about in glee.
Grooming and Care
These dogs make perfect house pets because their fine coats
need little to no grooming. Their coats can be easily cleaned
with a towel to bring their coat to a shine, and they can
be bathed if necessary.They should not be exposed to extreme
weather conditions for long periods because they have such
fine coats. Place a sweater or coat on them during cold
weather if going out for long periods.
